Who I Am
Tis all a Checkerboard of Nights and Days
Where Destiny with Men for Pieces plays:
Hither and thither moves, and mates, and stays,
And one by one back in the Closet lays.

The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam

You might say that I was a somewhat late convert for it was not until retiring age that I embarked upon the four year qualification course D.I.Hom (Pract) with theBritish Institute of Homeopathy (B I H). However as every sportsman knows there's no greater thrill than a late run on the stand rails to finish a nose in front.

So it was and still is with me and Homeopathy. The thrill of plying the healing art is a daily revelation each time one sees the unfolding miracle of returning balance in an individual previously disturbed with illness.

Following university studies during which I obtained a Bachelors in animal nutrition, a Masters in poultry nutrition and finally a Doctorate in Health and Nutrition I settled into the routine of providing for a wife and three delightful children. Little did I think at the time that much later in lifes journey I would return to the fountain of Health and Nutrition but from the vantage point of Homeopathy.

Like many students my abiding passion was sport and cricket in particular. The Indian climate is kind enough to permit all year round play of which I took full advantage.

Even here destiny played a role for in order to recover quickly from the strains and bruises of sporting life I was introduced to Homeopathy and Arnica. Later on I required more than muscle and tendon attention as my joints (particularly knees, hips and back) became achy and painful. In short I was cracking up! That is where the homeopathic Rhus tox came to my rescue. It helped extend my playing life by many years and I even enjoyed a second wind playing for Cork County on the Mardyke so much so that (as I eventually found out) I was whispered about by "younger" team members as "Granddad"!

As I traveled throughout Ireland from my base at
Ballymakeera, Co. Cork visiting farms and feedstuff manufacturers in connection with my vocation as an animal nutrition consultant I began to realise that something more than just nutrition was necessary to optimize performance. My mind went back to my Health and Nutrition training and it occurred to me that Homeopathy (through its natural action of strengthening the immune system) may have a role here.

Well the rest as they say is history. After time it was suggested to me that there would be great potential for homeopathy if I reproduced on humans improvements similar to those experienced with livestock So with the help of a few loyal farmer friends who had tried "everything else" by way of treatment for their various complaints and had "nothing to lose" I got into the human side of homeo! And so it was following "retirement" from livestock nutrition I embarked upon retraining as a registered professional homeopath and
Member of the Alliance of Registered Homeopaths (MARH) I  was also privileged to recieve the presigious Fellow of the British Institute of Homeopaths (FBIH) award for as the citation reads "having demonstrated a commitment to the healing art of Homeopathy".

Do I detect another Granddad whisper of "What motivation could one have at his stage of life for a new profession?" The answer is quite simple. As someone whose experienced quintuple by-pass surgery and is also a diabetic health is a top priority. By health I mean not merely the absence of disease or infirmity but the presence of complete physical, mental and social well being. Naturally nutrition is a key link but so is homeopathy with its emphasis on individual, mental and emotional balance.
