Description Known since early in
the 14th century it was named sal duplicatum, as it is a
combination of an acid salt with an alkaline one. It was also know
as vitriolic tartar. It is a non-flammable white crystalline
salt, soluble in water, relatively rare in its natural mineral form
but commonly available as a synthesised chemical for use in
fertilizers. The very beautiful (anhydrous) crystals form a double
six-sided pyramid, but are in fact classified as rhombic. They are
transparent, very hard and absolutely resistant to corrosion with a
bitter, salty taste.
The homeopathic application centres on
the fact that Potassium has a complementary action with iron
assisting with the transfer of biological oxygen within the cell.
Its action is that of an oxygen carrier transfering oxygen from the
lungs to the iron in haemaglobin and then from the haemaglobin to
the tissue cells. The Kali-s presence is essential in every iron
containing cell where a deficiency causes a desquamation of
epithelial cells due to an insufficient oxygen supply.
Mentals There is an anxiety which
travels deep down into the epigastria. Irritability especially from
noise. Mental confusion, heaviness, dullness, difficulty in
comprehension and weak memory Without potassium things tend to
stagnate, thus there is a claustrophobic boxed in feeling.
Congestion of the head (congestive headache) and vertigo.
Particulars As with most remedies
that have 'sulph' in their names, the color to remember is yellow.
This cell salt's leading indications are profuse yellow mucus
(whether from nose, eyes, ears, lungs, or vagina), yellowish coated
tongue, yellow slimy diarrhea, yellow dandruff and/or yellow oozing

Cut Potassium under
a specifically prepared sample under oil to minimize oxidation. When
absolutely fresh, the surface is bright silver, but as you can see
from the picture this sample has turned slightly bluish. The purple
tint on these soft potassium cubes is a very thin oxide coating.
Exposed to air they turn black in seconds. Exposed to water they
would explode, sending off characteristic purple-red flaming
