Introduction (General)
Birth history is of particular importance if birthing is traumatic or an apparent causal relationship existed between birth mother and child eg. a child with nightmares as a result of forceps delivery (Stramonium) or an infant with constipation resulting from the employment of heavy sedatives on the part of the mother during birth (Opium). Thus birthing history is particularly useful for children who need acute remedies early in life especially as it is the very last moment of birth that impresses the effects of trauma most on mother and child.

In a way every birth is traumatic or perhaps it is more accurate to say regardless of whether or not there is trauma that birthing is always a meaningful experience This experience will be a constantly repetitive theme through their life and will be reflected in the various illness suffered by the individual.

There are thus two ways in which the infant can suffer the effects of trauma
by direct intervention or insult during birth and/ or
by referred trauma conveyed from the mother.

Thus the better the mother and those helping her are able to let their emotions unfold in a natural way, in tune with the child's nature, the less traumatic will it be for the child and the greater will be their equanimity in subsequent life.

Birthing anxiety
Birthing - Anxiety

1a.i) The Mother
The basic underlying emotion giving rise to birthing trauma is that of fear. This fear is big enough to stop or stall labour.  The ability to diagnose and treat this aspect is the missing element of conventional medicinal practice.  We can numb out pain but there is nothing done to address the fear of pregnancy, of the ante-natal period, of labour itself or even later over the postpartum phase. We have already noted how the mothers trauma (fear) csn be referred (conveyed) to the infant and how these emotions can impact the rest of their lives. Assisting the mother to overcome her fears and anxieties is thus an essential element in the successful delivery of every newborn.

1a.ii) The Infant
In addition to referred trauma from the mother the newborn may suffer trauma as a consequence of direct intervention/ insult such as
bruising from forceps, vacuum or malpresentation.
resuscitation of any kind

Babies that are born with any degree of trauma can hugely benefit from two simple remedies
Arn 200C and Aon 1M administered hourly as required.

Homeopathics for
1b.iii) Other Situations
Use homeopathy to help your baby make a smooth transition.  Remedies can assist with:

  • Traumatic births - forceps, vacuum and c-sections all have an effect on the baby.  Simple remedies like Arnica and Aconite are incredibly effective for soothing head trauma, bruising, shock and fear.
  • Breastfeeding challenges homeopathy will address milk flow issues, mastitis, latching difficulties and failure to thrive in babes.
  • Skin ailments use homeopathy to ease the way through diaper rashes, eczema and cradle cap.
  • Discharge from the eyes - breast milk is the most amazing medicine you have right at hand for this but if you need a little extra support then homeopathy works beautifully to help babies move mucus from their eyes, out through their nose.
  • Using homeopathy from the beginning keeps your baby clear on how capable their bodies are.  Babies respond quickly and easily to homeopathic remedies, they are easy to administer and it is magical to watch the effect.  There are no side effects and you can feel good about addressing not only physical aspects of your babe but supporting them mentally/emotionally from the start.

Birthing - Stillborn
Birthing - Stillborn

It is sometimes confusing to hear the two terms abortion and miscarriage used interchangeably. In Homeopathy the spontaneous abortion of the pregnancy is referred to as abortion. In medical terms any spontaneous termination of a pregnancy before the 24th week is called miscarriage. After 24 weeks of pregnancy the delivery of a deed fetus that is called a stillbirth.

An induced abortion is an intentionally induced medical abortion either by drugs or surgery. This can be to end an unwanted pregnancy or to stop a pregnancy because of medical reason to protect the mother.

A threatened abortion is when there is bleeding or cramping in the first 24 weeks of pregnancy that threatens the pregnancy and  indicates that the fetus may be lost.

A complete abortion occurs when the fetus and the placenta have been completely expelled.

An incomplete abortion happens when there is only pert expulsion of the contents of the uterus and often refers to when the placenta remains behind (retained placenta).

Miscarriage is more common than generally appreciated and amounts to about 15% of all pregnancies of which some 85% occur in the first 12 weeks. Most miscarriages happen because of genetic abnormalities. Other causes include structural abnormalities in the women, under active thyroid, diabetes, drug or alcohol abuse, or infection. In roughly one third of all miscarriages there is no identifiable cause.

Symptoms for miscarriage are usually cramping, spotting, bleeding and/ or a discharge from the vagina. In the early stages of pregnancy the discharge or spotting may be mild. but as pregnancy advances there can be severe bleeding and cramping resulting eventually in the expulsion of the fetus.

Homeopathics for
2b  Abortion/ Miscarriage/ Stillbirth
All the homeopathic remedies given below can be given at a potency of 12 or 30c, these can be taken as frequently as possible when the threat of a miscarriage exist-the preferred dosage is once every hour. The dosage of the remedies can be reduced to one to thrice daily as the situation improves or in less severe cases-the remedies can be used whenever necessary or when the threat of a miscarriage suddenly appears.

Caulophyllum is to be used in the homeopathic treatment of women who have a tendency to suffer from miscarriages and in whom there is a weakening of the uterine tissues. This remedy is for use in women who have habitually miscarried or who are under constant threat of recurring miscarriages, all kinds of bleeding from the uterus, and heaviness in the abdominal area when pregnant. Physical symptoms evident during the condition include the presence of severe uterine spasms passing all over the body, the development of an excruciating pain that seems to radiate in all directions within the body, a trembling physical weakness in the body aswell as the occasional exudation of a profuse to thin and extremely acrid vaginal discharge.

Cimicifuga is to be used in the homeopathic treatment of women suffering from the threat of a miscarriage during the third month of pregnancy. The physical symptoms which are commonly observed include the presence of extreme and cramping pains that seem to fill the abdomen across from side to side, and tend to radiate left to right, or down to the thighs. These symptoms are often accompanied by physical sensations such as nausea, and spells of fainting ordizziness. The woman may be so troubled by the symptomsof an ensuing backache  that she doubles up from its extremely painful sensations and often cries out in agony.Psychological symptoms include the presence of a deep and persistent depression along with a feeling of constant dread about her surroundings and life in general.

Secale is to be used in the homeopathic treatment of women suffering from the constant threat of a miscarriage during the third month of a pregnancy. These symptoms are often accompanied by extremely heavy flows of a black, and offensive smelling, watery looking or oozing blood during the menstrual period. Physical symptoms include the development of extremely cold and almost blue skin with  cramping in the fingers withl feebleness and exhaustion.there is a griping pain forcing the woman to bear or bend down. The presence of one or more of these symptoms requires the immediate use of Secale as a homeopathic remedy in the treatment of the condition.

Sepia is to be used as a homeopathic remedy in the treatment of women who have a tendency to get miscarriages during the fifth to the seventh month of a term of pregnancy. Physical symptoms can include the presence of persistent morning sickness  together with the sensation of a ball like structure within the uterus. The painful sensations are so severe that the woman may be forced to bear or bend down with the pain. Additionally the woman finds that any motions performed by the developing fetus to be intolerable and extremely uncomfortable. The woman may also suffer from uterine fibroids, exude a  yellow colored discharge and suffer from extreme and severe itching sensations in the vulva which can trigger the miscarriage. The woman is also emotionally very weary and worn out from fatigue. Psychological symptoms include the presence of depression, and indifference to most things including sexualintercourse

 3a Induction

Birthing - Induction

This is one of the most searched for topics on the web with women constantly seeking ways to avoid medical induction and start labour naturally.  Homeopathic remedies are extremely effective in doing just this.  The right homeopathic remedy will initiate labour, just as if you had started labour on your own.  It is a gentle, non-invasive way to encourage your body to go into labour.

The main reason women go overdue is NOT because their bodies are not capable of knowing the correct time but because of FEAR on their part. The most effective way of addressing induction is to be able to identify what particular fear assails the mother to be. Is she most afraid of giving birth or of postpartum or of breastfeeding or of motherhood etc?

Timing Induction
40 weeks is the point at which some gentle assistance should be given  the mind and emotions in order to kick start the physical side of child bearing  The process will start as soon as the mother lets go the tensions within her stopping the process from happening.
41 weeks is an ideal time to start using remedies to directly impact the process. At this stage the body has had time to begin labour on its own and if there is something physical blocking (ie not mental or emotional) it usually starts to become quite clear as the next few days go by.

24 hours is the amount of time it takes a remedy to work. Thus within a 24 hour period of administering a mind/ emotion remedy an easement of the condition should be noticeable (ie loose stool, cramping, contractions, rupture of membranes, bloody show etc.) These changes will be gentle and occur at the natural pace of the body. If this is not the case than the incorrect remedy has been applied. Analyse the case again and re-prescribe.

Homeopathics for
3b Induction
Cimicifuga and Caulophyllum 15C is for when labour is enough to keep you awake but not intense enough to really get the ball rolling? They should be used after labour has begun in order to augment the process. Both remedies will make things happen. Take 1 dose of each every 15min.

Gelsemium 200C is for when labor had been moving beautifully but a stage arrives when everything slows down. Its as if youve get stage fright. This is for when the midwives arrives, you go to the hospital, people are watching and expecting something but alas everything slows down. Gelsemium will kick one back into action.

4a Surgical Intervention

Birthing - Surgical Intervention

Homeopathy can be very good in helping others through the trauma of surgery.  When we know that someone is going to have anesthesia and surgery there are very good methods of preparing that person for the trauma they are about to experience. I have found that this protocol is very useful. It helps with excessive bleeding and recovery from anesthesia when applied correctly. I have used this protocol with many people and the usual response is, my doctor said that he has never seen anyone recover so quickly.

This is one of the few times that I ever apply homeopathy with a more allopathic intent. Remember that we always prescribe a remedy based on the symptoms of the individual and never in a routine way. Let the person guide you to the remedy. But with surgery that is planned it is a known event that the body will be experiencing trauma. By following the protocol recovery can be improved tremendously.

Arnica is one of the best remedies for any trauma. It also is a very good remedy for recovery from anesthesia. Follow the protocol below;

Homeopathics for
4a. Surgical Intervention
The Protocol
Three days pre-op take one dose of Arnica 30C
Two days pre-op take Arnica 30C two times per day
One day pre-op take Arnica 30C three times per day
Day of surgery take Arnica 4 times before surgery commences.
Post surgery take Arnica 30C every 15 minutes as soon as possible in recovery during the first hour.
After the first hour repeat Arnica 30C every hour for the duration of the day.
One day post-op take Arnica 30C every four hours for the duration of the day.
Day two post-op take Arnica 30C four times per day.
Day three post-op take Arnica 30C  three times per day.
Day four post-op take Arnica 30C two times per day.
Day five post-op take Arnica 30C one time per day and continue until full recovery.
As you can see the protocol increases the frequency of repetition of doses leading up to  the surgery. Just after surgery the repetition increases a lot then starts to decrease as the body heals. I use this protocol for people that I am not able to manage directly.

If I am treating a client and have more direct access to them and know how they are responding I may change or add a remedy to the post-op protocol depending on how they are responding. Other remedies that I find are helpful are:

Homeopathics for
4b. Surgical Intervention (cont)
This remedy is for cuts. The person may be feeling violated in some way after the surgery.

2. Millefolium
When bleeding does not respond to the Arnica.

3. Nux Vomica
Indicated for nausea and vomiting after anesthesia.

4. Acetic Acid
Also for the ill effects of anesthesia.

5. Phosphorus
Good for anesthesia and vomiting especially if anything swallowed is immediately vomited.

6. Calendula
good for the tearing of tissues associated to the surgery and for the healing and antiseptic qualities for healing the skin.

7. Hamamelis Viginica
For hemorrhage from surgery.

8. Hypericum
for excessive painful response to the surgery or nerve damage.

9. Bellis Perennis
follows Arnica well and especially useful to trauma of the abdomen.

Any of these remedies when given in the 30C potency at regular intervals appropriate for the case should provide relief for your client. If it is necessary to give the remedy very often to maintain a healing response then possibly a higher potency will work better. Try the 200C or 1M potency.

Keep in mind that homeopathic remedies are energetic in nature and even though they are a medicine there are no contraindications or compatibility issues with standard allopathic medications. The remedies are not of the physical realm and will not interfere with any other drug. They can be used with great safety in addition to allopathic medications for pain or infection etc.

Keep these remedies in mind when someone you know is scheduled for surgery and you may be able to help them more than any other way. Be respectful of the physicians that are also working for the patient. They many times do not know about homeopathy and will resist any other medication that is offered to their patient. This is when being educated about homeopathy and being able to have family administer the remedies according to the protocol can still benefit the person.

Birthing table

5a. Separation/ at birth/ adoption

Birthing - Separation
Birthing - Separation

The casualness which hospitals exhibit towards routine separation of mother and baby in the first few hours of life is a problem. It does impact people and create distress which can have both physical and mental/emotional outcomes.  One may be conditioned to accept maternity protocols and rules but it doesnt make them right. The disconnect between mother and new born is a feeling (loss, deprivation, humiliation, sorrow, grief etc) that can stay both with both the mother as well as the babe throughout their life.

Adults often regard separation/ adoption as a blessing but for the children it is often a deep wound. Older children with separation anxiety (of being unwanted, disowned, rejected etc) have inevitably been separation at the birth. With separated/ adopted children who are acting up or are unusually withdrawn consideration needs to be given  to what they felt in-vitro. Were they feeling the stress of an unwanted pregnancy? Was there talk between the parents of terminating the pregnancy? Did they have their existence threatened?

Homeopathics for
5b Separation/ at birth/ adoption
Anacardium -
Adoption is a split, both emotionally and genetically. The child is split from the original family and identity and graphed onto a new family and identity. The Anacardium child has a divided will, not sure if they are a devil or an angel. The Anacardium state can be caused by isolation and separation at birth, or after, leading to an extreme lack of confidence and a feeling of powerlessness. To compensate for this feeling, the person becomes aggressive and cruel. A keynote of the Anacardium state is a cold, hardhearted stare, which can be quite disconcerting to parents. The child's behavior may appear very normal except in their drawings, which may have violent themes, and they may be attracted to playing with matches. The child's dreams may also be violent, but they will rarely share their dreams with others.

2. Calendula
Calendula is reprehensive of a deep wound penetrating to the deepest emotions of the individual in which two sides of tissue have torn apart and separated For an exhaustive discussion on this remedy please refer the link below:

3. Gallic acid
The Gallic acid state can be caused by the shock of a sudden separation from a primary caretaker. From that time onward, the child does everything possible to prevent being left alone. This child feels abandoned and reacts with manipulation and even violence in seeking protection from further abandonment. The child insists on being watched constantly and wakes up frequently at night to check that the parents are still nearby. This child won't stay alone for even a minute and is rude and abusive to those around them, even to friends. The child can be extremely jealous and threatening to siblings. Gallic acid children are often hyperactive and cannot focus on their tasks, or schoolwork.

4. Hura
Hura treats the condition of feeling unwanted and abandoned by one's nearest relatives, or friends. The child will feel that she doesn't belong, doesn't fit in. In addition, Hura children feel that they are disgusting as though they have leprosy and are, therefore, outcasts. Some Hura children will compensate for the feeling of being despised by showing contempt for others. The child will often have a skin disorder, such as eczema, or joint problems such as juvenile rheumatoid arthritis.

5. Lac maternum
Lac maternum is a remedy made from human breast milk. The child who needs it will feel completely alone, as if nobody is there for them. This is the experience of many adopted children who never receive bonding from the birthmother and who were never breastfed. The child feels a sense of isolation, even a sense of not inhabiting her own body. Others easily take advantage of her because she tends to their needs before her own.

6. Magnesium carbonicum
J. T. Kent wrote in his Lectures on Homeopathic Materia Medica: I once had in charge an orphanage, where we had sixty to one hundred babies on hand all the time. The puzzle of my life was to find remedies for the cases that were going into marasmus (wasting away). A large number of them were clandestine babies. It was sort of Sheltering Arms for these little ones. The whole year elapsed, and we were losing babies every week from this gradual decline, until I saw the image of these babies in Magnesia carbonicum and after that many of them were cured. Because of Kent's work, this is usually the first remedy thought of for adoptive children, or orphans.

7. Magnesium muriaticum
The Magnesium muriaticum child is a peacemaker. It's a good remedy for children whose parents are arguing or divorcing, or whose family members are engaged in conflict. The Magnesium muriaticum child wants everyone to be happy and harmonious. An adopted child who needs Magnesium muriaticum will be frightened whenever her parents argue, fearing that they will break-up and she will be abandoned, just as her birthmother had abandoned her.

8. Natrum muriaticum
Like the Anacardium state, the Natrum muriaticum state can be caused by isolation and separation at birth. It is a well-known remedy for babies who have been taken from their mothers and placed in an incubator at birth. The Natrum muriaticum child is easily hurt and protects herself with emotional reserve. There is an inner grief due to being left alone without adequate nurturing. These children are so closed it's hard to get to know them. They say little and reveal nothing about what is really going on in their lives. They are easily offended, and remember any insult for a long time - sometimes forever.

10. Pulsatilla
The Pulsatilla state can be caused by rejection of the child by the mother, or separation from the mother at an early age. The child feels unloved and unwanted. In her struggle to get enough love, the child will be clingy, weepy and manipulative. She has an insatiable desire for attention and reassurance, often asking, Do you love me?

11. Saccharum officianale
A remedy for those who did not receive enough love, or nurturing, in their early life. The child will usually have an extreme craving for sweets and may have a sugar imbalance problem such as hypoglycemia. She may also have extreme thirst. The child will compensate for lack of nurturing with two types of behaviors: firstly, she may constantly seek closeness with the parents, especially the mother, always wanting cuddles and wanting to sleep in the parent's bed. And secondly, the child may have behavior problems such as kicking and hitting other children, sibling jealousy, defiant behavior, or hyperactivity. Some children will compensate for a lack of nurturing by refusing any form of affection. These children have the same desperate need for love, but will refuse contact with the parents.

6a.  Breast Feeding Problems

Birthing - Breast feeding
Birthing - Breast feeding

Breast Feeding Benefits
There is strong evidence that bnreast feeding increases the natural immunity status as well as the maternal bond. Dr. Robert Mendelsohn, a well known pediatrician and author, feels that breastfeeding is so important that physicians and others should do all they can to encourage it. Dr. Mendelsohn counters those people who say it is disgusting to breastfeed in public by claiming it is more disgusting to bottlefeed in public.

Benefits of breastfeeding for babies includes reduced risk of

  • Stomach upsets
  • Coughs and colds
  • Ear infections
  • Diabetes
  • Asthma and eczema
  • Obesity (being very overweight)
  • High blood pressure later in life
  • Breastfed babies also have:
  • Better mental development
  • Better mouth formation and straighter teeth
  • Benefits for mothers

Health benefits of breastfeeding for mothers include:

  • Less risk of breast cancer
  • Less risk of ovarian cancer
  • Less risk of bone thinning (osteoporosis) in later life
  • Stronger bones in later life
  • Faster return to pre-pregnancy figure

Other benefits

  • It creates a special bond between mother and baby,
  • It is cheaper because less equipment is needed, and
  • It saves you time because you do not have to prepare bottles.

6a. i) Mastitis
One of the most common breast problems is mastitis Women with mastitis, inflammation of the breast, need to be treated as soon as possible so that they can continue breastfeeding. Conventional treatment for this condition is simply antibiotics. Although these drugs work reasonably well, it certainly would be worthwhile to try an alternative treatment that is safe and effective, since the baby will end up receiving trace amounts of antibiotics through breastmilk.

Homeoppathics for
6b. i) Mastitis
Women who need Belladonna will have a high fever, congestion in the head, throbbing headache, and flushed face. The breasts are red hot and swollen.

Recommended when the breast are stony hard and sensitive to motion or jarring. Unlike Balladonna the breast are not red but they are hot and swollen. Additionally the mother may have dry lips, thirst and constipation.

Women who need this remedy have stony-hard and very painful breasts which are discharging pus. The nipples are so sensitive that nursing produces intense suffering that radiates all over the body.

Lac canium
The mother needing this remedy has breasts which are painful, sensitive to motion or the slightest jar (even inspiration) symptoms which diminishes if the breasts are supported.

6a. ii). Engorgement
Excessive lactation means that more milk is produced than is necessary. It is characterised by swelling and discomfort of the breast, sore nipples and usually occurs a few days after birth when milk supply peaks.

Homeopathics for
6b. ii) Engorgement
Breasts red, hot, swollen and tender
Breasts are painful whenever there is movement.
Calcarea carb
Milk is profuse but thin and has an off flovour. Baby refuses to drink.

Other solutions/ techniques

  • If there is a tendency for inverted nipples wear breast shield during pregnancy.
  • Make sure you wear a comfortable nursing bra.
  • Manually express some milk
  • If the baby fails to suckle give your milk on a spoon
  • Dry the milk on the breast with a hair dryeron low
  • Apply hot packs before nursing
  • Apply cold packs after nursing
  • Limiting access to only one breast/ feed can reduce milk volume.

7a Babies that only want to nurse
on ONE side!

Birthing - One side feeders
Birthing - One side feeders

Most women find that they can nurse their babes on one breast more easily than the other.  This can lead to some discomfort if the quieter breast is not great or the milk is not being fully accessed from that side.  One of the most common reasons this can occur is due to birth.  Babies experience quite a bit of strain and stress on their neck, head and jaw during the birth process and this varies according to how much force and intervention was used during the birth.  If there was a case of forceps, vacuum, some physical manipulation or a cesarean birth then there is a high possibility of cranial/ cervical stress affectation. Such a condition can be diagnosed if if it is painful for the infant to turn their head in one particular direction or open their jaw fully. In particular such a condition can result in the favouring of one particular breast and a predisposition towards laying the head to one side. These are all typical signs of cranial/ spinal misalignment.

Osteopathic  Treatment
Structural alignment has a well documented track record in rehabilitating acute and chronic cervical problems. Cranial sacral therapy is a good option if there is a specialist practitioner handy. Chiropractic for babies is powerful.  They benefit greatly by being seen very soon (like in the first week) after their birth.  This supports great breastfeeding, gastrointestinal ease and helps to clear any trauma that may have occurred during their birth experience.

8a. Sore Nipples

Birthing - Sore nipples
Birthing - Sore nipples

Breastfeeding may make your nipples sore. But cracked and
bleeding nipples are not a normal side effect of breastfeeding.
Nursing isn't meant to be painful in fact, pain is a warning sign
that you have a problem that needs correcting

What causes the condition?
The main cause of cracked or bleeding nipples is improper
positioning of the baby at the breast. This also causes severe
nipple pain. If your baby has thrush, you may get cracked nipples
and shooting pains in the breast during or after a feeding. Thrush
is a yeast infection of the mouth that results when yeast naturally
present in the body grows and spreads out of control.
Your nipples could also crack or bleed because of severe dry skin,
or if you have eczema. You can get an eczema-like condition on
the nipples or breasts.

Will the condition affect my baby?
Babies are generally unfazed by cracked or otherwise injured
nipples. Blood in the milk doesn't hurt them, and breastfeeding can
continue. The main concern here is to correct the problem and
allow the nipple to heal, so that nursing is once again a
pleasurable experience for both you and the baby.

Can I still nurse?
Yes. Nothing in the world is more wonderful than breastfeeding
your baby but convincing a mother with cracked, bleeding
nipples of this is near impossible.

What else should I do?

  • If your nipples bleed or crack, try the following:
  • Check your baby's positioning
  • A poor latch-on technique is the most common reason for
  • this condition. Your baby should face your nipple, tummy to
  • tummy with you. Your baby needs to open wide to take in a
good mouthful of both the nipple and the areola. The best
latch-on position is off-centered, with more of the areola
below the nipple in your baby's mouth. Line up babys nose
with your nipple so that his bottom gum is far away from the
base of your nipple when he opens. Your nipple should be
far back in your baby's mouth.

Change positions at every feeding
This focuses the pressure of the baby's gums on a different
area of the breast each time.

Nurse more frequently, but for shorter periods
Remember, the longer you go between feedings, the
hungrier your baby will be and the harder he will nurse.

Don't use soap, alcohol, lotions, or perfumes on the nipples.
Bathing with clear water keeps your breasts and nipples

Prevention and Home Remedies for Sore Nipples

  • Application of cool compress to your nipples, before nursing can help in alleviating sore nipple problem. Let the child suckle the nipple which is less sore as the first suckle is the most active. Keep switching sides with each feeding, thus avoiding pressure from the baby's mouth on the same part of the breast.
  • Do not discontinue nursing; they heal by frequent nursing with the passage of time.
  • Exposure of nipples and breasts to air prevents growth of thrush. Avoid wearing bra for long hours of the day instead wear nursing bras with flaps. Expose your breasts and nipples to sunlight for minimum 30 seconds and gradually increase it to three minutes.
  • To prevent cracks, tears and chapping of nipples apply Olive oil, or Sweet almond oil, or Lanolin or Comfrey ointment. Use this throughout the latter part of the pregnancy and beginning weeks of nursing.
  • Do not use soap, cologne, deodorant and powder on your nipples or breasts. Avoid washing nipples with soap as it leads to chaps or cracks.
Application of Comfrey ointment softens and strengthens the nipples. It is useful for sensitive nipples. Use of Yarrow leaf poultices - or Yarrow infused oil provides instant relief from cracked, sore and chapped nipples.
  • For relief rub the nipples with resin of Balsam fir. Phytolacca Decandra is also very useful in cases of breast infection, mastitis and cracked nipples.
  • Calendula cream or ointment is useful in treating cracked nipples, abscess or any other breast injury. Apply it right after nursing and clean it before next feeding. By cutting an Aloe Vera leaf, apply fresh gel to heal sore and cracked nipples. One should check for local senstivities and allergies before applying any of the above or better consult the doctor.
