For most of us happy celebrations lead to food and drink. But rewarding yourself this way can be counterproductive over the long haul especially when you're trying to maintain your hard earned weightless status.

So is it possible to celebrate without food? Here are some suggestions for celebrating your achievements that don't involve thousands of calories?

1. Announce your accomplishment to others and allow yourself to hear and soak in the congratulations.

2. Buy yourself some new songs for your mp3 player. Some  have created entire inspirational playlists made up of songs that represent a specific accomplishment or milestone.

3. Give yourself the gift of visiting in a place you always wanted to spend some time in but  that you felt you didnt have time for (garden centre, book store, museum, art gallery, heritage centre, historical site, a local cultural event like an guided art, architectural or historical walk or engage in a workshop activity etc.)

4. Get a pedicure or manicure or take a seaweed bath. Men could have a Turkish hair cut and shave with head massage

5. Have a massage or treat yourself to a full therapy programme.

6. Go away for a week end. If thats too long a time to take a day long coach trip and sit back and relax while someone else takes the strain.

7. See a movie, go to the theatre or opera, take in a concert.

8. Subscribe to a magazine you want. Youll be reminded of your reward at least once a month.

9. Purchase something you've always wanted (perfume, jewelry, start a charm bracelet and reward yourself with a new charm for each goal you hit, or buy some sports or hobby equipment/ item with the money youve saved by not going out to dinner).

10. Have a professional photo shoot of yourself. Go for glamour at one of those studios that makes you look like a movie star or a top model. Or have an "olden days" photo taken, one you can pass on to your grandchildren someday.

11. Buy a new rig out to enhance your new look.

12. Take dance lessons, as you are losing weight you will be able to move about easier. Why not try ballroom dancing (yes the strictly come type) with your significant other and youll have a weekly date!

Soon, rather than routinely slipping into a bakery the minute you feel a yen to treat yourself coming on, you'll think again.
